Quentin Tarantino Is Ready to Film His Last Movie… No, It’s Not ‘Kill Bill 3’

Quentin Tarantino declared a couple of years ago that he wants his filmography to be composed of only ten films. In 2019, the creator of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill released his 9th film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood with great success, and a couple of accolades added to his impressive career. But being his 9th film, people started wondering what his very last film would be about.

The filmmaker, now married and father of two, has been linked to many projects including his own version of Star Trek and an alleged third volume of his hit movies Kill Bill. Although Tarantino has toyed with the idea of making a new revenge fantasy involving Vernita Green’s daughter going after Beatrix Kiddo and her daughter, it has now been revealed that his 10th, and supposedly last film, won’t have anything to do with these characters.

What’s Quentin Tarantino’s 10th Film About?

According to Variety and other US media, Quentin Tarantino has finished the script of his 10th movie and is ready to start filming this year. The film is titled The Movie Critic and is said to be set in the 1970s.

Not much is known about the plot per se since it’s been kept under security after the script of his eighth film, The Hateful Eight, was leaked and wasn’t almost released. What is known is that the movie will have a female lead and that it is loosely based on the life and deeds of film critic Pauline Kael.

When Will the Movie Be Released

At the moment Quentin Tarantino is ready to have potential buyers read the script. If you remember, Tarantino made almost all his films with Harvey Weinstein, but after the debacle of the latter, he looked to other studios to produce Once Upon a Time. This time Tarantino is looking for a similar deal that proved to be a massive success.

This means that he wants a studio that will secure his last film a huge theatrical release and will give him the rights to the film in a short time. When negotiating Once Upon a Time, he secured a deal with Sony Pictures that will return the rights in 20 years. Once the script readings are done and a deal with the studio is made, he will be able to start shooting. But we couldn’t expect a film earlier than 2025.

Is This the End of Tarantino?

Not likely; this would only mean he’ll no longer create feature films. So far, Quentin Tarantino has devoted his time to writing; he’s already released two books, the first one an extended novel of the Once Upon a Time story, and the second one a film theory book called Cinema Speculation.

While promoting the latter, Tarantino revealed he wants to create an 8-episode TV series. So, this means he’s not formally retiring; he just only wants to keep his filmography short and concise. Although Tarantino fans have poured their disappointment on not having a Kill Bill 3 movie, maybe he will take the story back to a series format in the future.
