You might think that maybe the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has nothing to do with you. Either you live in America or really see no connection to your daily life. However, it is closer than you imagined.

Mike Sapiton, tech editor at Forbes Ukraine, made a list of most of the famous and day-to-day apps with Ukrainian origins and some you would not even believe its roots.

These are the apps and platforms that are linked to Ukraine and help us in our daily lives.

Whatsapp

Although this app is now part of Meta, it was initially founded by Jan Koum, a Ukrainian emigrant who was born in Fastiv, a city now attacked by Russian rockets according to Sapiton.

PayPal

The online payment platform has Max Levchin as a cofounder, who is Ukrainian. He contributed to anti-fraud efforts to the platform. He also invested in Yelp and Affirm, a platform of loans for consumers, is his new company.

MacPaw

This Ukrainian company is responsible of clean my mac, a life-saving app that helps you declutter your Apple computer.

Snapchat

According to Sapiton, this app was largely built by Looksery team, most of them located in Odessa, one of the targeted cities by Russia. This company has important offices in Kyiv and Zaporizha.

Grammarly

How your essays or simple work mails would look without the help of this vital app. Well, it was founded by the Ukrainians Max Lytvyn, Alex Shevchenko, and Dmytro Lider who tried to build an IA system capable of identifying plagiarism in essays.
