Astronauts play ping pong in space

In a stunning video, two Chinese astronauts surprised the world by playing ping pong in Space using a drop of water as a ball. It’s no joke! The spectacular images became a worldwide trend.

How Do Astronauts Play Ping Pong in Space?

Astronauts on China’s orbiting Shenzhou-16 demonstrated how the surface of water reacts to being hit with a table tennis (ping pong) ball during the fourth Tiangong Class lecture that was broadcast live Thursday. The Tiangong Class is a series of space science lectures aimed at inspiring young people curious about space. Three previous lectures were conducted by the crews of China’s Shenzhou-13 and Shenzhou-14.

In this case, astronauts Zhu Yangzhu and Gui Haichao were the participants in this surreal “water” ping-pong match at China’s Tiangong Space Station. After the game, in a very curious detail, Zhu even drank the “ball.”

What Is China’s Space Station?

The Chinese Space Station, known as Tiangong or “Heavenly Palace,” represents one of the most impressive and ambitious achievements in contemporary space exploration. This station, operated by the Chinese Space Agency (CNSA), has become a key point in the global space race and has captured the imagination of people around the world. As a result, transmissions such as ping pong are a spectacle in that country.

Construction of the Chinese Space Station began with the launch of the core module called “Tianhe” in April 2021. Since then, a series of human-led missions have been conducted to attach additional modules and continue to expand the station.

The station consists of three main modules: the central module, which acts as the core of the station and provides life support, the “Wentian” laboratory module, and the “Mengtian” module. These modules provide facilities for scientific research, reduced gravity experiments, and advanced space technology.

The Chinese Space Station provides a huge research platform for Chinese and international scientists in areas ranging from astronomy and biology to physics and medicine. In addition, this station represents a symbol of China’s commitment to space exploration and its ability to carry out complex and sustained missions in space.

International cooperation is a key aspect of the Chinese Space Station. Although China is not a member of the International Space Station (ISS), it has invited scientists from around the world to research its station. This promotes global collaboration in space exploration and the sharing of scientific knowledge.

However, the Chinese Space Station has also raised concerns in some parts of the world, especially regarding the security and militarization of space. China has stated that its space program is for peaceful purposes, but international surveillance and scrutiny continue.
