What will we do without avocado? The United States has stopped imports of avocado from Michoacán and we cannot afford to live without guacamole.
The Association of Avocado Producers and Exporters Packers of Mexico (Apeam) reported that they are working at full speed in collaboration with federal government authorities to resolve the problem ASAP.

USA Bans Avocado Imports
Through an official statement, Apeam explained that the interruption of avocado exports from Michoacán “was due to an incident unrelated to the avocado industry, also affecting other agricultural exports in the state.”
Since last Saturday, June 15, the United States government temporarily suspended avocado imports, after a second incident against inspectors from the US Department of Agriculture was recorded during a blockade.
According to reports, the incident occurred last Friday, when two American inspectors were detained during a demonstration in the community of Aranza, in the municipality of Paracho, about 35 kilometers north of Uruapan in the state of Michoacán.
After this, the US embassy in Mexico activated a security protocol, which includes the intolerable temporary suspension of imports, a measure that could last up to two weeks, although the extension of the suspension has not been defined.

Apeam said it joined efforts with the government of the state of Michoacán, the USDA, the United States Embassy in Mexico and Mexican authorities “to establish an action plan and resume exports.”
In the last six weeks, avocado producers from Michoacán have exported more than 135 thousand tons of avocado to the United States, through more than 5 thousand shipments.
We must know that avocado from Mexican producers is the leader in production and export worldwide with 1.68 million tons annually.
