Owls are a species associated with wisdom since ancient times due to their countenance and their character. Owls are night animals that emit a lulling sound in the middle of the darkness and sleep during the day. It’s very well known that adult owls sleep standing up, so they appear to be awake and go unnoticed. But, have you ever wondered how baby owls sleep? They sleep upside down lying on their bellies, and they look absolutely adorable!

These mysterious birds usually sleep during the day, while, at night, they are most active. They sleep very discreetly on tree branches and, to be even more unnoticed, they sleep standing up. However, one of the most outstanding characteristics of their physiognomy, is that their heads are too large compared to their bodies. Because of this, baby owls sleep on their bellies due to the weight of their heads, which their tiny bodies are not yet able to support. So they have to lie face down on the nearest branch to enjoy a nice nap.

Baby owls, the most endearing of birds
The intriguing way in which baby owls sleep has astonished internet users amazed by the adorable appearance of these cuties sleeping on their stomachs. The funniest part is that they look like tired people, lying face down and slumped over. On some occasions, they even collapse onto their chests and turn their heads sideways before falling into a deep slumber, which makes them look even more adorable.

But the most surprising thing is that they don’t need to lie on a flat and stable surface to take a nap. Baby owls actually lie face down on tree branches and don’t fall off. How do they do it? This is thanks to their toe or hind claw, also called hallux, which hooks them to the branch. Thanks to their hind claw, baby owls can rest their heads and have a restful sleep.
