Facebook Messenger has released a dark mode as a way to help users deal with screen glare. At first, the new element wasn’t yet accessible for everybody, and you needed to send a crescent moon to find it, as a sort of “easter egg.”
But now, Facebook has rolled out dark mode in Messenger globally, accessible through a toggle switch in the settings menu.
The dark mode works by changing the shading settings to lessen the glare, which makes perusing through messages both simpler on a client’s eyes and their gadget’s battery. Google is also working on a similar feature and you will be able to enjoy Google Black Skin very soon.
Some studies have indicated that the light emitted by the screens of PCs and cell phones can add to visual acuity problems. Last August, researchers from the University of Toledo, Ohio, uncovered that the blue light from digital devices and the sun transforms vital molecules in the eye’s retina into cell killers. This can in turn cause a condition known as macular degeneration, which results in a darkened spot or blind spot in the focal point of the vision field.
While it is believed that dim modes can help decrease eye strain, there hasn’t really been a study to prove that this is the case, and that these darkened modes prevent this kind of harm.
“Looking at artificial blue light for prolonged periods may increase eye strain and affect sleep patterns, so using ‘Dark Mode’ may help with this,” Henry Leonard, optometrist and head of clinical and regulatory at the Association of Optometrists, told The Independent.
“However, there is currently insufficient evidence to suggest that exposure to blue light from devices such as mobile phones causes permanent damage to the eye, including the retina, or increase the risk of eye conditions.”
