Donald Trump Signs Excecutive Order To Push TikTok’s Ban

In not-that-surprising move, President Trump extended TikTok ban deadline by 75 days via executive order, pushing for deal agreement.

The extension, announced late in the administration’s tenure, provides TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, additional time to finalize a deal that would address national security concerns. These concerns stem from allegations that the Chinese-owned app could potentially share user data with the Chinese government.

“My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress. The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days.”, were the word of Donald Trump on an X post eariler today.

The 75-day extension comes as a surprise to many, since the Trump administration has been very adamant about a ban. This extension allows the app to continue to operate in the United States while negotiations with potential U.S. buyers proceed.

The TikTok Ban Saga Continues

The ongoing saga of TikTok’s potential ban has drawn significant attention from users, tech industry experts, and policymakers alike. The app’s massive popularity, particularly among younger demographics, has made it a focal point in discussions about data privacy and foreign influence in the digital sphere.

Legal challenges to the ban have also played a role in the extension. Courts have raised questions about the administration’s authority to impose such restrictions, adding further complexity to the situation. This extension allows for further legal proceedings to take place.

The extension also gives more time for the app to be sold to a US company. Oracle and Walmart have been mentioned as possible buyers, but nothing has been confirmed.

As the new deadline approaches, the future of TikTok in the U.S. remains uncertain. The app’s fate hinges on the outcome of ongoing negotiations and legal battles, which will continue to shape the landscape of social media and international tech relations.
