It’s been 28 years since the first-ever Billboard trophy was awarded in 1990—and the show has truly grown with each iteration. And now, as Billboard hands its yearly awards once more, we take a look at the nominees and winners of the night right here—following, of course, an A-lister red carpet for the ages.
Kelly Clarkson returns as host and performer this time around. Besides her, tonight’s performers included Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie, Ariana Grande, Paula Abdul, Ciara, Madonna & Maluma, the Jonas Brothers, Mariah Carey, Panic! At the Disco, among others.
We also got to see a diverse assembly of presenters, including Eva Longoria, Olivia Wilde, Sophie Turner & Tye Sheridan, David Guetta, Erin & Sara Foster, Asher Angel, Chrissy Metz & Justin Hartley, Dave Bautista & Kumail Nanjiani, Jennifer Hudson, and Cobie Smulders. The show’s taking place at the MGM Garden Arena, Las Vegas.
Going into the show, Cardi B led the BBMAs with a whopping 21 nominations in 18 categories, barely missing Drake’s and The Chainsmokers’ record of 22. Trailing behind the rapper, we find Drake and Post Malone tied with 17 nominations apiece. Travis Scott is next, with 12 nominations, and XXXTentacion with 10. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are also up for an award, competing in the Top Soundtrack category for A Star Is Born and in the Top Selling Song category for their hit, “Shallow.”
