No se sabe qué ha estado pasando estas últimas semanas con las personas y con sus gustos musicales, pues mucha gente se ha encargado de traer canciones viejas o MUY viejas de vuelta. Esta vez se trata de ‘It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)’ que es una melodía publicada en noviembre de 1987 e interpretada por R.E.M., la banda de rock estadounidense.
La melodía de R.E.M. no había tenido tanta popularidad, sino hasta 33 años después, hoy.
Michel Stipe, el ex vocalista de la banda subió hace algunos días, un video en el que canta una frase de esta canción y añadió las palabras «Lavarse las manos y distanciamiento social». El cantante invitó a la audiencia a quedarse en su casa y a recurrir a fuentes confiables para obtener información.
El artista también habló de la forma en que la canción comenzó a trepar hasta llegar al Top 20 superando la vez en que salió en 1987. En el ranking de canciones de rock está segunda y en YouTube está a punto de llegar a las 2 millones de reproducciones.
«Estamos pasando por algo que ninguno de nosotros había presenciado antes. Y que es real, es serio y está aquí», dijo Stipe en el mismo video. «Me siento bien, me siento bien’. Ésa me parece la parte más importante de la letra. El título de la canción dice ‘el fin del mundo como lo conocemos».

La canción está llena de rabia, paranoia, angustia y desconsuelo, pues realmente no nos da nada de esperanza para estos tiempos que estamos viviendo actualmente.
La canción fue compuesta por el propio Stipe y en un principio no había sido del agrado de Peter Buck y la rechazó inmediatamente, Michel lo tuvo que convencer. «Gracias a Dios siempre nos hemos tenido el uno al otro para convencernos de lo equivocados y correctos que podemos estar»
Se trató de Documents, el quinto disco al que pertenece ‘It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)’. Al disco también pertenece la canción ‘ The one I love’, melodía que fue mal interpretada, pues no se trataba de amor, pero el público prefirió quedarse con eso.
El video muestra a un skater en una casa abandonada, ya que Peter no quería salir en la cámara y Michel Stipe se negaba a hacer playback.
Otra de las canciones que resurgió del pasado, debido a la pandemia mundial, es ‘I Will Survive’ de Gloria Gaynor, pues la cantante subiÓ un video en donde sale lavándose las manos al ritmo de la canción.
