The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that it will not file assault charges against actor Armie Hammer, accused of rape, after two years of an “exhaustive” investigation. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement, published by the media, that after conducting an “extremely thorough” review of the case has concluded that “there is insufficient evidence” to charge Armie Hammer with a crime.

The actor was facing a lawsuit from a woman, identified as Effie, who claims the Call Me By Your Name star assaulted her in 2017 for four hours and committed other “violent acts” without her consent during an on-and-off extramarital affair he had with her. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office indicated that it has been unable to prove the allegations against Armie Hammer, “due to the complexity of the relationship and the inability to prove a non-consensual, forced encounter.”

Armie Hammer’s Case

It was in 2021 when alleged private messages between Hammer and several of his ex-partners were leaked on social media detailing disturbing sexual fantasies, such as mutilation and cannibalism, exposed by the women. The 36-year-old actor denied being responsible for any wrongdoing and has stated that all sexual activities he has engaged in were fully consensual.

In an interview published last February, Hammer admitted to emotionally abusing his ex-partners but denied committing rape. Since those leaks came to light, his career has been severely curtailed, and he has not returned to acting. The controversy surrounding Hammer returned to the spotlight in late 2022 with the docuseries House of Hammer, based on his family’s dark history and featuring two of his former partners, Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, who confirmed allegations of abuse by other women.

After the announcement by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office where they ratify that he will not be charged with sexual assault, the American actor posted a message on his Instagram account, where he thanks the District Attorney for the thorough investigation where they concluded that he did not commit any crime and hopes to rebuild his life now that his name is clear.

“I am very grateful to the DA for conducting a thorough investigation and coming to the conclusion that I have been adamant about all along, that no crime was committed. I look forward to beginning what will be a long and difficult process of rebuilding my life now that my name is clear.”
