In The Woman in Me, Britney Spears has shed some light on her troubling life. Despite being one of the most iconic and most recognized people in the world, there were many dark and tragic things we didn’t know about the Princess of Pop.
In her bombshell memoir, Britney Spears makes a journey through her life, even giving us some heartbreaking information about her ancestors. But, perhaps one thing that has broken our hearts the most is the horrible childhood she had with an alcoholic and often violent father and a mother trying to make the lives of her children a bit better. That included sharing some drinks with her daughter at a very young age.

Britney Spears’ Mom Gave Her Cocktails When She Was 13
In one of the first episodes of the book, Britney remembers some moments of her childhood next to her mom, Lynne. One of these happened after her debut on The Mickey Mouse Club but three years before the big breakout in 1998 when the classic “…Baby One More Time” was released.
Britney remembers that one of the moments she really felt she was bonding with her mom was when they traveled together and shared some daiquiris. She was only an 8th grader of 13 years old.
“For fun, starting when I was in eighth grade, my mom and I would make the two-hour drive from Kentwood to Biloxi, Mississippi, and while we were there, we would drink daiquiris. We called our cocktails ‘toddies,’” Britney shares in her book.

The Sad Reason Why She Loved Drinking with Her Mom
For most of us, this is shocking, and many would even call Child Protective Services. However, for Britney, this is still one of her happiest memories from her childhood. “I loved that I was able to drink with my mom every now and then.”
She describes the experience as a happy bonding moment where both would laugh and forget the hell they lived in. Jamie would often become violent towards them when he drank. Britney always wished her father would simply go out drinking and stay away for days, which was also quite common.
However, when he was drunk at home, her life became a nightmare. Lynne would get really mad and yell, and Jamie would retaliate. Britney would simply go to her room trying to lose herself in her thoughts not to listen to her parents scream.

So, although she didn’t like the idea of alcohol and what it did to people, her once-in-a-while escapades with her mother to drink were always exciting. “The way we drank was nothing like how my father did it. When he drank, he grew more depressed and shut down. We became happier, more alive, and adventurous.”
The relationship with her mom has been stormy, especially after the 14-year conservatorship the singer was subjected to. Britney has called out her mother for her involvement in said conservatorship and how hurting it was that she would team up with her father to do that.
However, it seems they are now working things out. She posted on her Instagram that mother and daughter finally saw each other after three years of not seeing each other. She claims that it’s not going to be easy but that they are on a path of reconciliation.
