Following the premiere of ‘Quiet On Set,’ the docuseries about Nickelodeon’s problematic environment in which child actors and adult employees lived, Drake’s Bell apparition on “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast brought the discussion to the table as he gave details about how the DMs controversy affected him mentally and physically.

The Dms Controversy

If you are not familiar with this, Drake Bell was given probation for child endangerment in July 2021; he was accused of sexual misconduct and grooming by a former female fan.

The TV star went into depth and explained how he got involved. He had also clarified before that even though he pleaded guilty, he had not done anything. The star was sentenced in an Ohio court and received 2 years of probation plus 200 hours of community service.

Aftermath of the release of Quiet on Set

The case of Drake Bell has been the most talked about in recent days when he revealed that he was a victim of sexual abuse when he was 15 years old by Brian Peck, former dialogue coach. Brian was convicted and registered as a sexual offender, but despite the accusations against him, the former Nickelodeon employee received support from several celebrities. 41 friends and family members, including famous figures, wrote letters in support of Brian Peck before the judge sentenced him.

He also talked about Amanda Bynes, stating he never Saw anything suspicious happen between her and Dan Schneider. Also, he opened up about his co-star, Josh Peck’s support on the subject:

Even tough a lot of TV stars are featured on ‘Quiet on Set’, Drake’s testimony brought the eye of the public as it unmasked the horrors that were happening with Nickelodeon and producer Dan Schneider.

These things that I’ve been called in the past couple of years… It’s really hard. It’s really difficult when there are actual perpetrators out there who are doing really bad things. And things that have happened to me, and now I’m being labeled, I’m being called all these different things. Anybody can just make a TikTok or an Instagram post and say, ‘Oh… he is this and that…’ and people believe that immediately,” he explained previously in Creativo, another podcast by Roberto Martínez.

He also explained how everything happened, and how his past experiences had influenced his actions.

“I responded on some DM‘s and was incredibly irresponsible and got myself into conversations that I shouldn’t have had, and I ended up finding out that  I was talking to someone I shouldn’t have been talking to and it’s snowballed into this allegations that were not true”. He admits he did have the conversations so he decided to take responsibility and ended up pleading guilty.

He shared how his trauma affected him: “There’s just so much that I’ve had to deal with, and through that, like I said, not having the tools are not knowing how to process things I made a lot of decisions in my life that I shouldn’t have made.”
