This is sad news for all Star Wars fans, as our beloved Anakin, also known as Jake Lloyd, entered a mental rehabilitation center after experiencing a psychotic episode in March 2023.
His mother commented that the incident occurred while they were together (she was driving) on their way to a McDonald’s. Jake’s mother, Lisa, mentioned that the incident caused a lot of traffic, and even people around them started calling 911.
“The police got there, and they asked Jake some questions,” she remembered. “He was talking to them, but none of it made sense. It was all word salad.”
According to Page Six, his mother commented, “He said he wanted to turn the car off. And he turned the car off in the middle of the three lanes, and we were in the middle lane,” she recalled to Scripps News Monday. “There was a lot of yelling and screaming.”
It must have been terrifying and extremely sad for his mother to see Jake behaving in that way, but it is worth noting that he had already been diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2008. His mother has commented that she noticed Jake starting to have problems when he was in high school, and that when he entered college, the condition only worsened. She also said that Jake never mentioned hearing voices or anything like that, but he definitely was, and when he finally received the diagnosis, he fell into a very deep depression.
“He didn’t tell us he was hearing voices at the time. But he was,” she recalled. “When they finally told him [he was schizophrenic], it totally threw him off into an even worse depression. It was really hard.”
The Case of Jake Lloyd
Although Jake Lloyd is about to turn 35, all of this began in June 2015, when he was arrested for leading a police pursuit that spanned several states until he finally crashed his car and stopped. He spent 10 months in jail and after that sought psychiatric help. Before, Jake wasn’t taking his medication because he believed he didn’t need it, but, according to his mother, Jake returned to treatment and regularly took his pills he has started watching Star Wars content on Disney Plus, and he loves it!
