It’s been over a month since the world lost the hilarious and beloved Matthew Perry, and although it’s a loss for all the millions of fans, there’s no doubt it’s been a huge blow for the original cast of Friends. Among them, Jennifer Aniston was reportedly reeling the most of all.

The gorgeous actress has finally opened up about this great loss during an interview with Variety in which she was promoting the new season of her hit show The Morning Show. Aniston revealed she had been texting with Matthew early that day and that he was as funny and loving as usual. “I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.”

Unlike what many thought when the news of Matthew Perry’s passing broke on the Internet, the actor was not in a dark moment when he passed. Now, Jennifer Aniston has confirmed that he was happy and healthy: “He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know.”

On that same note, she assures that he had not relapsed as many thought the cause of death was related to his past addictions to alcohol and substances. This has yet to be confirmed by the autopsy, although a preliminary result confirms that the actor was not on these substances when he passed. “I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard,” Aniston declared.

Finally, the We’re the Millers star came clean about the toll this loss has had on her and the cast, and how much they miss Matthew Perry, a person who brought laughter to their lives. “He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.”

“His way of speaking created a whole different world. We went with his lead, in a way. It just added something to our joy,” concluded Jennifer Aniston, who took the chance to clarify it was Matthew Perry and not the screenwriters, the one that made Chandler Bing the hilarious and iconic character we all love.
