At a press conference, JLo opened her heart to talk about what it means to be a woman today, especially a Latina woman, in the entertainment world while presenting her new movie, Atlas, which will arrive on Netflix on May 24.
In this film, the actress plays an analyst who embarks on a mission to capture an artificial intelligence with which she has a mysterious past.
And just like her character in fiction, Jennifer did not want to miss the opportunity to speak honestly about the challenges women face daily to succeed.
“She saves the world, and I feel like women have been saving the world since the beginning of time. She has to fight harder and do more things despite the pain she carries, and as women, that’s a big part of our lives,” she emphasized.
She added, “Everyone thinks ‘Atlas’ is crazy; no one wants to listen to her. This is an experience women have all the time. There are many men in this movie who don’t believe her, and I can understand her. I know many other women can relate, especially in this business.”
The Difficulty of Succeeding as a Latina
Jennifer Lopez also touched on how difficult it is to succeed in the entertainment world as a woman and a Latina, something that is no secret but that many successful actresses and singers have been fighting to highlight in recent years.
“In this business (entertainment) you’re criticized, underestimated, laughed at when you don’t succeed; and then, when you do, they want to tear it down. There’s always this aspect as a woman, and especially as a Latina, it’s hard to be taken seriously,” she lamented.
With her words, Jennifer Lopez not only presented Atlas but also sent a powerful message to all women, especially Latinas, who fight every day to be heard and respected in a world that is often relentless and superficial.
