Kristen stewart calls out fake sex scenes: advocating for realism in film intimacy

Kristen Stewart is under scrutiny for her remarks about sex scenes in series and films, commenting that they’re too fake and should better emulate how people have sex.

Admit it, we’ve all felt uncomfortable watching a movie with our parents and cringing through the typical sex scene, whether it’s romantic or wild, it’s always awkward to watch them undress, scratch each other’s backs, and kiss their necks. Well, for Kristen Stewart, sex scenes are super fake, and she claims that’s not how people do it in real life. The actress has a point; in movies, everything seems easy, goes smoothly, and it’s always super sensual, but let me tell you something, sex isn’t always like that.

What Did Kristen Stewart Say About Sex Scenes?

Kristen recently starred in the movie Love Lies Bleeding, which is rated R, meaning it’s restricted content, and minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult to watch the film. Directed by Rose Glass, the romantic thriller is about a gym manager (Kristen) who falls for an ambitious bodybuilder (Katy M. O’Brian), igniting violence that entangles them in the criminal web of Kristen’s character’s family.

In an interview with NBC, Kristen Stewart mentioned that she would like to make the film’s intimate scenes fresh and more realistic.

“The run-of-the-mill, like, just-go-for-it simulated sex thing is so rote, and it’s like actors do have this default thing where, like, ‘Okay, we’re supposed to make out and have sex now.’ That’s just not how people have sex, and I’m so sick of seeing it.”

“Really nailing the details and talking about the physical experience more so than even seeing it, like verbalizing it, talking to each other, sharing space, having it not be cut up into a ton of different shots, it felt like … a really beautiful thing to deliver an experience that was, like, literal instead of faux,” she added.

The actress also claimed that there isn’t as much sex in the movie as one might expect, but that’s true for most films. If you think about 50 Shades of Grey, the same applies. I think people had such high expectations not only for the story but also for what they were going to see; the intrigue snatched their money and bought movie tickets. If you want to enjoy Kristen Stewart and Katy M. O’Brian’s new movie, stay tuned because it hits theaters this Friday.
