Social networks and the internet continue to be hostile to women, even famous ones. This is demonstrated by the latest photographs of the sexual content of the singer Taylor Swift, created with Artificial Intelligence and which were widely shared on X, formerly called Twitter. Given this, the Democratic representative of New York, Yvette Clarke, criticized the circulation of these false images and urged legislators from both parties to find solutions to regulate this type of technology that is used to violate women’s rights.

“What has happened to Taylor Swift is nothing new.” “This is a problem that affects both sides of the political spectrum and even Swifties should be able to come together to solve it,” the legislator wrote on her social networks.

The policy assured that technological advances such as artificial intelligence have made it easier for malicious actors to create realistic images, known as deepfakes. So far, a group of states have passed laws regulating deepfakes, but so far Congress has not addressed the issue. New York Democratic Representative Joe Morelle introduced the Preventing Deepfakes of Intimate Images bill, which will criminalize the intentional dissemination of images “created or altered” with technology such as artificial intelligence to show a person engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

This Thursday, through his account on X, after the singer’s incident he reiterated his desire for the project to be approved to protect citizens from being victims of the creation of this type of content.

“The spread of explicit AI-generated images of Taylor Swift is appalling, and sadly, it is happening to women everywhere, every day,” Morelle wrote. “It’s sexual exploitation, and I’m fighting to make it a federal crime with my legislation,” he said.

The altered images of Swift in X reached more than 45 million views, before being removed, 17 hours after being posted. Although the platform has rules that prohibit this type of content, it is common to find countless videos and photographs on the social network in which women’s rights are violated. After the arrival of the tycoon, Elon Musk, the social network has been placed at the center of controversy for allowing hate messages.
