At the moment, it was only revealed he had drowned in his hot tub, and although we now have an answer to what caused this tragic death, there was only one person certain he hadn’t just drowned.
If there was someone who knew the actor’s harsh life outside the spotlight was his former girlfriend Kayti Edwards. She dated Matthew Perry briefly in 2006, but kept a crucial part of his life until the end, even working for him as an assistant. From the beginning, Edwards declared that she knew “Matthew, and I know that he wouldn’t have just drowned. I think he might have taken pills in the week leading up to this.” She was absolutely right.
Some days ago, an autopsy finally revealed that the actor accidentally passed off “acute effects of ketamine.” Other substances were also found in his system, like meds to lose weight, some antidiabetic pills, nicotine lollipops, and testosterone, which, according to a close friend of his, left him “angry and mean.”
Matthew Perry’s intense and painful battle against his addictions wasn’t a secret as he opened up about it in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir. There, the actor revealed he had spent over 9 million dollars in an attempt to stay clean. However, he apparently lied about something; he said he had been sober for 18 months before the publication of the book.
Kayti Edwards has now revealed more shocking information about Perry’s desperate methods to stay away from substances and also the terrible ways in which he got his hands on them. On the latter, Edwards shared that he once asked her to get him several types of drugs while she was pregnant, claiming that no one would ever suspect a pregnant woman, putting her in danger.
However, what has saddened people the most was another story Edwards recently shared. That is the time Edwards found Matthew sitting on a couch with his hands super-glued to his bare knees. According to Edwards, he had “been getting high all night on a plethora of drugs, most likely crack, cocaine, and other substances. It was desperately sad. I had to use nail polish remover and olive oil to free him.”
In a desperate attempt to stop taking more substances, Matthew thought of a way to literally prevent him from taking more. The image, as Edwards reveals, was glum and heartbreaking. “We were literally ripping the hair from his legs, and he had red, raw patches left behind; it was pretty horrific.”
Matthew Perry’s life was a living hell he tried so hard to change. While he was a loving and funny person on screen, in private, he was truly miserable. May he finally rest in peace.
