It’s been a month since the world turned its attention to the Israel-Palestine conflict after Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel. Deemed the deadliest attack in Israel’s history, as well as the retaliation on Gaza and the West Bank, opinions are divided, and feelings on the matter are high.

This peak in the conflict has left thousands of deaths on both sides. It was been reported that Hamas’ surprise attack left about 1,400 Israeli casualties as reported by Israel’s officials. The Associated Press has reported over 10,3000 Palestinian deaths since October 7. The violence displayed in Gaza has definitely sparked the anger and grief of millions all over the world, including the entertainment industry.

As such, two of the celebrities who have been quite vocal about the matter but on different sides are Mia Khalifa and Gal Gadot, a pair who have beefed in the past on social media for the same reason. Since day one, Mia Khalifa has posted several controversial posts that have even cost her two jobs, with Playboy and Red Light Holland. But what specifically sparked this new feud?

Mia Khalifa’s “Genocide Barbie” Nickname Resurfaces

This week, it was Gal Gadot the one under the spotlight with people angry for her support towards Israel. It was reported that the Wonder Woman star is helping organize a screening of a film provided by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which many have dubbed as Israeli propaganda. The 47-minute video focused on the surprising attack is set to be screened in New York, although the news has been received with backlash among the public.

The Isralei-born actress, Gal Gadot, has always shown her support for her country and the military, mainly because she served in the Israel Defence Forces. This time isn’t different. However, Mia Khalifa’s nickname isn’t new. Due to the attention the conflict has gotten worldwide, an old article was published in Paper Magazine in 2021.

A screenshot of the article titled “Mia Khalifa Dubs Gal Gadot ‘Genocide Barbie’ After Israel-Palestine Statement” resurfaced on social media and rapidly went viral. Naturally, the image reached Mia Khalifa, who rapidly posted it replying to the news of Gal Gadot’s involvement in the propaganda film. The image came with a sassy comment that read “I’ve been trying to tell y’all….”

But what happened in 2021 that sparked this nickname? Back then, the Israel-Palestine conflict got some attention, and Gal Gadot, as she does now, showed her support on social media saying that Israel and its neighbors each “deserve to be a free and safe nation,” and asked people to pray for the people of her country who was at war.

At the same time, the HBO streaming platform announced on social media that the second installment of Wonder Woman was returning to the platform. Khalifa shared the post on Twitter with the caption: “We asked for the #SnyderCut, not Genocide Barbie.”

This post, naturally, caused outrage on social media as it still does some of Khalifa’s stands, although as the days pass, she’s been getting more and more support just as the Palestinian cause has done so. Proof of that is that it is now Gal Gadot under the spotlight, and not her.
