Nyotaimori: Kanye West’s Peculiar Japanese Practice He Served at His Birthday Party

What is Nyotaimori?

Kanye West hosted a birthday party in Los Angeles and, together with his family and friends, celebrated his 46th birthday. The food served at the celebration was pieces of sushi and sashimi, but these were strategically placed on a woman’s naked body. This practice is known as Nyotaimori and comes from Japan, where it has been common since the 1960s.

There it was used as a semi-erotic attraction for hot spring bathhouses in mountain villages. It is said that Nyotaimori comes from another similar practice that has records in the period between 1603 and 1867; it consisted of pouring sake into the intimate areas of a woman to get drunk.

In Europe and America, it can be a rather uncomfortable practice, even offensive; however, for the Japanese, it is something completely normal, they even follow a series of rigorous instructions so that there are no problems between diners and models.

The plates are not placed on the skin, but on sanitized sheets, while the most intimate parts are covered with flowers and double-sided tape. And, as a bonus, there is the same technique but a male version, this is known as Nantaimori.

North West Was Present at the Party

North, a daughter that Ye shares with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, was a special guest at her father’s party, so she witnessed the Nyotaimori practice. This event was highly criticized by users on social networks, as they claim that it is not healthy for a 9-year-old girl to see a practice that is considered for adults, especially since she attended a party that is not suitable for minors.

So far, Kanye has not spoken about it and, likely, he won’t.
