Shakira went through one of the worst moments of her life in 2023, after more than 12 years of relationship, her marriage with Gerard Piqué came to an end, a situation from which she was able to get out thanks to the support of her family and friends such as the one and only, Adele.
In a recent interview for Rolling Stone, the Colombian opened her heart to talk about the way in which her career has transformed in recent months thanks to the personal growth she obtained after her separation.
And she revealed, among other things, that one of the people who supported and accompanied her the most during her divorce was none other than Adele.
Shakira’s Painful Divorce
Shakira recalled that as soon as she found out about her ex-partner’s infidelity, she fell apart, since she could not understand how the man with whom she had built a beautiful family was capable of hurting her in such a harsh way.
“The suffering I felt was probably the greatest I have ever experienced in my entire life, and at times it prevented me from functioning, as if someone had cut a hole in my chest. The feeling was so real. Physically, I felt like I had that gap and that people could see right through me,” he said.
The singer explained that infidelity, Piqué’s divorce process and her father’s illness led her to go through hell from which she managed to get out thanks to the help of Adele, Chris Martin of Coldplay, John Mayer, Carlos Vives and Juan Luis Guerra.
Shaki detailed that during that time she received phone calls from all those artists, who extended their support and Adele kept in touch with her frequently to cheer her up from time to time.
The ‘She-Wolf’ Did Catharsis with Bizarrap
Shakira also took the opportunity to talk about what session 53 with Bizarrap meant to her, as soon as the collaboration was released, she felt a great relief, despite the fact that many people warned her that she will not release the song.
“You don’t know the maximum relief I felt. Then I remember my manager at the time telling me, ‘Please change the lyrics.’ Of course, I was trying to calculate the possible contingencies and risks, but I said: I’m an artist, I’m a woman. And I’m a wounded wolf. No one should tell me how to lick my wounds,” he said.
