Former football player and ex-convict O.J. Simpson died on April 10, 2024, after losing his battle with cancer. On April 26, his attorney Malcolm LaVergne confirmed to TMZ that the cause of death was metastatic prostate cancer, despite the fact that days before his passing, the hospice had sent him home.

Simpson mentioned to the media that he never spent time in hospices; however, other sources confirm that he spent a long time in hospitals while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

At the time of his death, Simpson was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, as confirmed by close family members through their X account.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” the statement read. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

The Rise of O.J. Simpson

While O.J. Simpson gained fame for playing for the Buffalo Bills in the 1990s, he really became a household name after being involved in a trial for the double murder of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. His attorney at that time, Robert Kardashian, father of the Kardashian clan, managed to get him acquitted due to alleged inconsistencies in the evidence, including a glove that supposedly didn’t fit the former player. However, later on, he was found liable in a civil trial for the double murder of his wife and her friend.

That wasn’t the only time Simpson found himself in controversies. In 2007, he was arrested for armed robbery, and some time later, he was also found guilty of kidnapping and armed robbery. Simpson was released on parole in 2021 after serving the minimum sentence of 9 years.

Simpson mentioned in the past that he didn’t want to relive the moment of his infamous trial, telling The Associated Press in 2019,

“We don’t need to go back and relive the worst day of our lives. The subject of the moment is the subject I will never revisit again. My family and I have moved on to what we call the ‘no negative zone.’ We focus on the positives.”

There’s no doubt that bad weeds never die, and O.J. is clear proof that infamy can make you more famous than talent, and that even after his death, he will be remembered for the murder of his wife more than for his terrible illness. Perhaps that is divine punishment for his deeds.
