Pink opened her heart by revealing that, during her youth, she faced serious problems with drugs, which put her on the brink of death when she was only 16 years old. During an interview with 60 Minutes, the singer opened up about her self-destructive period as a teenager due to growing up in a dysfunctional family.

The interpreter of “So What” confessed that her family environment made her dive into the world of drugs, as she not only consumed various illegal substances but also sold them. “I grew up in a house where every day my parents yelled at each other and threw things at each other. They hated each other,” she said.

The artist commented that she tried to fill her emotional void with drugs, but this made her move further and further away from her path, as she was kicked out of her home and soon after ended up dropping out of high school. This plunged her into a dark world where ecstasy, angel dust, and crystal meth became her escape, bringing her to the brink of death.

The Overdose That Almost Took Pink’s Life

Pink’s fateful turning point came on Thanksgiving Day, 1995 when the then 16-year-old attended a rave and overdosed. That night the singer consumed a deadly combination of substances that almost killed her.

“It was the last time I tried hard drugs,” Pink revealed in the interview, noting that this shocking experience was a crucial turning point in her life. After this traumatic event, Pink found strength in her passion for music, and weeks after her overdose, she managed to sign her first record deal, which would begin her path to fame and success.
