Prince William thanked the public in his first comments since his father, King Charles III, was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer. Speaking at a fundraising gala for the London Air Ambulance Service, the prince expressed his gratitude for the “kind messages” to his dad and his wife Kate, who recently underwent abdominal surgery.
King Charles III is currently resting at Sandringham after beginning cancer treatment on Monday. Meanwhile, Prince Harry has been spotted at Heathrow, apparently returning to the United States after meeting his father, but not his brother.
William Thanks Charles III for His Support
Arriving at the event in aid of the London Air Ambulance Service, Prince William greeted people gathered outside and said: “We appreciate everyone’s kind messages, thank you.” During the gala, William gave a speech and thanked everyone again for the kind messages he had received. With his father’s diagnosis announced a week after his wife, the Princess of Wales, returned home from abdominal surgery, William said the last few weeks have been focused on medical issues.
“I would like to take this opportunity to also thank you for the kind messages of support for Kate and my father, especially in recent days. It means a lot to all of us. It is fair to say that the last few weeks have been quite medically focused.”
Prince William and Harry Pending Their Father’s Health
Prince William returned to work supporting the king on Wednesday when he hosted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. His brother Harry, like other royals, was personally informed by the king of his diagnosis and quickly boarded a flight from California, spending around 45 minutes at Clarence House on Tuesday before returning on Wednesday.
Charles III seemed relaxed when, upon returning to Sandringham, he was seen in public on Tuesday for the first time since the diagnosis was announced. His outpatient treatment began earlier this week and he has postponed all public responsibilities, although he continues to work on his red boxes of state documents.
His weekly private audience with the prime minister is planned to take place by phone, rather than in person. It is understood this is expected to return to in-person meetings in two weeks. Therefore, William would assume more public responsibilities while his father focuses on treatment.
