In early April, HBO and executives reported that Euphoria‘s production on the third season was on pause due to the busy schedules of its stars: Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya and Maude Apatow.
However, sources close to the network said that past strikes in Hollywood affected the production of the third season, since executives are dragging their feet once the industry strikes ended; demanding that the scripts needed to be completed in order to read them, which frustrated Sam Levinson.
According to DailyMail, the decision to read the scripts for the 3rd season is a response to Sam’s The Idol, which wasn’t well received by the public and was canceled after receiving terrible reviews after its first season.
The 2025 series debut
Deadline reports that if HBO goes ahead with a third season, which they affirms to be starting production later this year for a 2025 debut, filming will have to work around the schedules of cast members like Dane, who have booked new gigs, like the pan-European miniseries Kabul, which is currently in production.
As the production keeps delaying, HBO allowed the cast to take other acting jobs since March.
It’s been more than 2 years since HBO renewed Euphoria for a third season.
The cast features stars like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, and more, though some actors have left the series.
Delaying Reasons
The third season of ‘Euphoria’ faced delays for several reasons. Here are some of them:
- Cast Scheduling Conflicts: The show’s stars, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, have been in high demand after Season 2. Their busy schedules caused delays in production.
- Change in Setting: Season 3 will move away from the high school setting and exploring early adulthood. This shift required reworking the narrative, contributing to the delay.
- Rewrites and Tribute: Writer Sam Levinson extensively rewrote the season, partly in response to the loss of cast member Angus Cloud (who played Fezco).
- Creative Control and Controversy: ‘Euphoria’ has been a lightning rod for controversy, with rumors of difficult on-set conditions and Levinson’s reluctance to cede creative control. These factors also contributed to the delay.
Anyways, we’re still patiently waiting for Season 3, but also hoping with our hearts that this year the series begin to be filmed.
