Inside Out 2 has already become the highest-grossing film of 2024 and one of the most successful of the last decade and its formula for success was finding a way to turn something as complex as the human mind into something that even the smallest of the family can understand.
Almost 10 years after the release of the first part, the sequel arrived in theaters to win our hearts and show us that even emotions that could be considered negative by many, for example, anxiety and envy, can help us bring out our better version if we learn to control them.
But that is not the only lesson we learned from Inside Out 2, since the movie is full of hidden messages that help us understand the plot much better.
One of the details that caught our attention is the radical reduction of the family island compared to the first part and we’ll explain the reason below.
Why was Family Island reduced in Inside Out 2?
You will surely remember that from the first movie we learned about the islands that made up Riley’s personality, at that time the most important was the family island.

However, in Inside Out 2 we discovered that many things have changed as Riley has grown up and one of the most notable changes was that the family island was not only reduced, but was even replaced by friendship island as the most important one.
This detail is perhaps one of the most striking, especially for parents who saw the film, as it not only represents that Riley is becoming a teenager, but that in the process she has tried to have much more freedom and independence.
But that is not the only reason that could explain the reduction of that island, since some people have mentioned that everything could be related to the fact that Riley spends less time with her parents, probably because they have both started working. This new dynamic and the natural independence that Riley seeks has created a very noticeable separation between them.
