1 5 - men whining about 'barbie' proves how frail is the patriarchy

It was known that Barbie would be a feminist revolution in cinema; however, we never imagined how much the movie would expose the fragile masculinity of thousands and thousands of viewers. Barbie has bared the true personality of many people, touching uncomfortable and fragile points that certain characters (mostly men) are not willing to accept.

Barbie broke masculinities, and all the whining proves the movie was right. The first reactions of the public who have seen Barbie during its debut weekend poured through social networks, and many users warned that if they go to their boyfriends and get angry, it is a clear red flag.

But why would they get angry? The question is: why not. Greta Gerwig’s film made it very clear from the beginning that it would have a feminist and real vision of adult life; emotional crises, mental health, and feminine power; however, many dudes could not stand it and left the theaters hurt, even before seeing the film, because: ‘how come they were not the protagonists?’

Pink… The Revolutionary Color Against Fragility?

Thousands of men said they would not wear pink to see the movie, and many said they would not even watch it because “it was for girls.” The film seeks to break with sexism, the objectification of women, and the normalization of patriarchy, and that is precisely what has made thousands of viewers uncomfortable, who refuse to accept that ‘Ken is just Ken’ and Barbie is the powerful one in this story.

How Barbie empowers us women has been a source of ridicule for all those who have not advanced intellectually and also in society, simply because, this time, they were not the center of attention. Men criticizing our pink outfits when they dress up as the superhero in Marvel’s premieres, mockery, fury, discomfort, and anger are the reactions that were bared thanks to the narrative of a film that, at last, recognizes us women in the real world.

Barbie is the perfect experiment to make us realize how bad we are as a society: sexist, misogynist, and retrograde. Something is not right at home, and we must realize it because the new generations cannot go down the same path.

“If you were uncomfortable with the movie, Barbie is making fun of you,” states our review of the film that you can read here.
