Oppenheimer already had its first screening and it exceeded the expectations of the critics, which were already high since its announcement. Christopher Nolan’s film is one of the most anticipated releases of 2023, and after a long wait, we already have the first reactions.
These have no spoilers, but they do indicate that it will probably be one of the best films of recent times.
Oppenheimer: First Reactions
Oppenheimer had his first screening in Paris, France, and it was only for some members of the specialized press and critics; however, they gave us a little preview of the first look and assured us that this would be “the best work” of the filmmaker. The film is almost three hours long, in fact, it is Nolan’s longest project so far, and received high praise calling it “audacious,” “spectacular achievement,” “a masterpiece,” and even “the best film of the year.”

“Possibly Nolan’s most impressive work yet in the way it combines his renowned visual mastery with one of the deepest immersions into characters in recent American cinema,” wrote Kenneth Tura of the Los Angeles Times.
“A spectacular achievement in its truthful and concise adaptation, inventive storytelling, and nuanced performances by Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and many, many others involved,” assures another reviewer.
That’s not all, Murphy also took away great words to describe his work as the lead in the movie, and many are anticipating he will be nominated for and take home the Best Actor award at the Oscars.
“A character study on the grandest scale, with a sublime central performance by Cillian Murphy. An epic historical drama but with a distinctly Nolan sensibility: the tension, the structure, the sense of scale, the stunning sound design, the remarkable visuals. Wow.”
Oppenheimer‘s release is still a few days away, but as of now, we are confident that Christopher Nolan’s work is spectacular and probably one of the most important film productions of recent years.
