Quentin Tarantino has many hallmarks in his films: shots from the trunk, nods to B-movies, his incredible character development dialogues… But above all, there is something for which he is tremendously recognized, his shots of female feet. This is a matter that the filmmaker has commented on.

Recently, the two-time Oscar winner was interviewed by GQ magazine on the occasion of the promotion of his first book, the novelization of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. During the conversation, the director of Pulp Fiction was asked about his cinematic fetish around this particular part of his actresses’ anatomy.

Although the question seemed to not please Tarantino much, the director did not refuse to answer:

“I don’t take it seriously, there’s a lot of feet in a lot of good directors’ movies. That’s just good direction. Like, before me, the person foot fetishism was defined by was Luis Buñuel, another film director. And Hitchcock was accused of it and Sofia Coppola has been accused of it.”

For some, citing a director like Sofia Coppola has been understood as a way to refute Tarantino’s detractors who point to these types of shots as a sexist practice that objectifies women.

Currently, the filmmaker combines the promotion of his book with the proposal of a new project. Although he has stated that he is not sure if he will make his tenth film or if he will leave cinema before that, he has demonstrated on numerous occasions that he has no shortage of ideas to carry out. Tarantino has expressed in the past that, after his time in the film industry, he would like to focus on television, theater, and literature.
