Disney knows all too well that its live-action Snow White remake is one of its most controversial projects to date. The company is also aware that it won’t achieve the expected success—even in the United States.

In fact, it was recently reported that the Hollywood premiere has been delayed by a couple of days. If things are this uncertain in Los Angeles, chances are the film will go largely unnoticed in Mexico.

From the start, Disney’s take on the classic princess has struggled to connect with audiences. Initially, fans were skeptical but somewhat accepting of Rachel Zegler’s casting as Snow White. However, things took a sharp turn after her comments regarding changes to the storyline surfaced, sparking backlash. And let’s not even get started on replacing the seven dwarfs with CGI characters.

A Low-Profile Premiere for Snow White

Amid the ongoing controversy, Disney has opted for a discreet approach to the film’s premiere, now set for March 15. Unlike the grand Hollywood spectacles typical of Disney releases, this event will be significantly toned down to avoid subjecting Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot to uncomfortable media scrutiny that could further damage the film’s reputation.

According to Variety, Disney is playing it safe by scaling back the red carpet event. Only a handful of photographers and Disney’s in-house team will cover the premiere. Additionally, both Zegler and Gadot will not be taking questions from the press; they will only pose for photos before heading straight into the El Capitan Theatre.

Directed by Marc Webb, Snow White is set to hit theaters on March 21. However, Disney’s recent promotional strategies suggest a lack of confidence. On March 12, Zegler participated in a small event where she performed one of the film’s songs.

The event was notably low-key, with only about 30 attendees and limited media presence. Interestingly, Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, was absent—perhaps signaling a lack of cast support for the movie’s promotion.

Furthermore, when a TMZ reporter recently asked Gadot whether people should watch Snow White, her response was brief: “Of course, it’s a great movie.” No further comments about the March 15 premiere were made.

With so many red flags surrounding the film, one question remains: Is Disney quietly bracing for a box office flop?
