The hidden history of the Rugrats ensures that Angelica, the spoiled and cunning girl who was obsessed with her Cynthia doll, is actually the only character that existed in real life and the true inspiration of the cartoon. The theory says that little Angelica was actually facing several mental problems that led her to create an imaginary world full of babies. In this way, all the little ones would simply be characters invented by Angelica’s deranged mind.
The twins Phil and Lili would have been aborted by her mother, which is why Angelica’s fragmented imagination, not knowing the sex of the baby, represented them as a boy and a girl in her alternate world.
