Celine Dion is sounding the alarm on a new threat to the music industry: AI-generated fake songs. The legendary Canadian singer took to Instagram this weekend to warn fans about unauthorized tracks circulating online that falsely claim to feature her voice and likeness.
Dion didn’t specify which tracks or platforms are hosting the fraudulent songs, but her warning highlights a growing concern in the music world. Artificial intelligence has become a double-edged sword for artists, offering creative possibilities while also enabling the unauthorized use of their voices, images, and creative works.

The AI Debate Heating Up the Music Industry
Dion’s warning comes on the heels of a massive pushback from over 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Jon Bon Jovi, and the Jonas Brothers, who signed an open letter in April 2024 condemning the misuse of AI in music. Organized by the Artist Rights Alliance, the letter called on tech companies and AI developers to stop using artificial intelligence to “infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.”
The letter specifically called out deepfakes, voice cloning, and the use of AI to replicate artists’ work without permission or compensation. It also raised concerns about AI being used to undercut royalty payments and exploit musical works to train AI models.
“This assault on human creativity must be stopped,” the letter stated. “We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem.”

Dion’s Official Statement
In her Instagram post, Dion made her stance crystal clear:
“It has come to our attention that unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Celine Dion’s musical performances, and name and likeness, is currently circulating online and across various Digital Service Providers. Please be advised that these recordings are fake and not approved, and are not songs from her official discography.”
The statement underscores the growing issue of AI-generated content and its potential to mislead fans and undermine artists’ rights.

Celine Dion’s Triumphant Return Amid Health Struggles
Dion’s warning about AI-generated songs comes as she continues to make a remarkable comeback after stepping away from the spotlight due to her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle rigidity, spasms, and heightened sensitivity to stimuli like sound and light.
The five-time Grammy winner revealed her diagnosis in December 2022, sharing that she was undergoing intensive therapy five days a week to manage the condition. Despite the challenges, Dion made a stunning return to the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, performing Edith Piaf’s classic “Hymne à l’Amour” from a platform on the Eiffel Tower.
Her performance was a powerful reminder of her enduring talent and resilience, making the unauthorized use of her voice and likeness all the more egregious.

As AI technology continues to evolve, the entertainment industry is grappling with how to regulate its use. Some artists have embraced AI as a tool for creativity, but others are calling for stricter protections to safeguard their intellectual property.
For now, Dion’s message to fans is clear: be vigilant. “These recordings are fake,” she emphasized in her statement. And with the rise of AI-generated content, it’s a warning that all music lovers should take seriously.
