In a rap battle against Kendrick Lamar, rapper Drake referred to Taylor Swift as one of the biggest figures in music today. Through his verses, Drake called her the biggest gangster in music, and he’s not wrong, since Taylor has become so influential and important in the industry that nobody’s talked about anything but her new album since it dropped last Friday.
On April 19, Drake released a song called “Taylor Made Freestyle” on his Instagram account, in response to Kendrick Lamar’s delay in replying to his track “Push Ups.” Drake mentions that he’s waited over a week for Lamar’s response, and he didn’t miss the opportunity to leverage Taylor’s fame and the recent release of her album, The Tortured Poets Department, to throw some jabs at KL in just a few bars.
Did Drake Use AI for His New Song?
Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” is also noteworthy because it features AI-generated verses from Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac Shakur. Drake throws more shade at Lamar, suggesting that the reason Lamar hasn’t responded yet is because of Taylor Swift.
“But now we gotta wait a f—ing week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new Top/And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve/This girl really ’bout to make you act like you not in a feud,” Drake raps, referencing the long wait for Lamar’s response. “She tailor-made your schedule with Ant, you out of the loop/Hate all you corporate industry puppets, I’m not in the mood.”
“Yeah, shout out to Taylor Swift, biggest gangster in the music game right now.”
“You know, I moved my album when she dropped, I said that already. You know, she ’bout to milli’ run through a Milly Rock on your head top. She got the whole pgLang [Lamar’s company] on mute like that Beyoncé challenge, y’all boys quiet for the weekend,” are some of the lines in the track.
Drake also seemed to mock Lamar for his association with Swift on his latest record “Push Ups,” where he rapped: “Maroon 5 needs a verse, it better be witty/You only need one verse for the Swifties.”
Taylor Swift Releases New Album
Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, is out, which she announced just after winning the Artist of the Year award at the Grammys. Although many believed the album would be entirely inspired by her ex, Joe Alwyn, with whom she had a 6-year relationship, the singer surprised all her fans when they realized that many of the lyrics referenced not only Joe but also the brief romance she had with The 1975 member, Matty Healy.
