I already felt bad about pairing my Barbies with GI Joe or Max Steel after hearing “I’m just Ken.” Warner Bros. released a new teaser ahead of Barbie‘s July 20 release. It is the song “I’m Just Ken,” performed by Ryan Gosling paired with some clips from the movie in which we see Ken loving Barbie with all his plastic heart.
He really loves her and is willing to take on the role of second fiddle, and yet she only sees him as a friend, as just another accessory. The song has generated all kinds of reactions: there are those of us who are unlocking a new sense of guilt for having kept Ken in the shadows, those who are praising the song, those who can’t believe how good Ryan Gosling is, and those who can’t wait to finally see the Barbie movie.
Every preview they release confirms that it will be one of the best movies of the year. In this other article, we told you about the first impressions from critics, and it looks like it will be everything we have imagined and more.
‘I’m Just Ken:’ Full Lyrics
Here are the video and lyrics of Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” for Barbie, the movie.
Doesn’t seem to matter what I do
I’m always number two
No one knows how hard I tried, oh, I
I have feelings that I can’t explain
They’re drivin’ me insane
All my life has been so polite
‘Cause I’m just Ken
Anywhere else I’d be a ten
Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?
I’m just Ken
Where I see love, she sees a friend
What will it take for her to see the man behind the ten and fight for me?
I’m just Ken and I’m enough
And I’m great at doing stuff
So, hey, check me out, yeah, I’m just Ken
Baby, I’m just Ken
