Judge postponed donald trump’s trial

Donald Trump won’t go to jail before the elections on November 5 in the United States. A tremendous legal victory for the Republican Party candidate who is in a very tight race against Kamala Harris.

Is Donald Trump Going To Jail?

New York Supreme Court Judge Juan M. Merchan has postponed the sentencing of Donald Trump‘s criminal trial until November 26, after the US presidential election.

In May, a jury in the same court ruled that Trump was guilty of 23 counts of falsifying documents to silence a porn actress with whom he had had an extramarital affair.

Trump’s legal team had tried by all means to postpone that sentence, scheduled for September 18, arguing that it constituted clear electoral interference in the presidential election on November 5, in which Trump faces Democrat Kamala Harris in a contest that seems very close.

Merchan made this decision after the request of Donald Trump’s legal team, who had requested to delay the sentence until after the elections, not only because of the political consequences it could have for his race for the White House, but also to have more time to challenge his conviction. For its part, the prosecution had not objected to a brief reprieve.

In this case, Trump faces up to four years in prison, but experts say Merchan will most likely opt for a shorter sentence, or perhaps one of probation or periodic visits to a court.

Despite the verdict, it hasn’t all been good news for Donald Trump. Earlier this month, federal judge Alvin Hellerstein rejected the former president’s recent request to move his criminal case over irregular payments to former porn star Stormy Daniels to federal court.

The judge rejected Trump’s defense’s argument that the Supreme Court’s decision on his presidential immunity applies to the case, and said it is not his job to address allegations of bias and conflict of interest against Judge Juan Merchan, who is handling the case.

In a four-page decision, Hellerstein, who already rejected the same request for transfer last year, assured that as president “affects my previous conclusion that the hush money payments were private, unofficial acts, outside the bounds of executive authority,” He also said Trump’s allegations of “bias, conflicts of interest and appearances of impropriety” in the state trial must be adjudicated in state court.

In a press conference from Trump Tower, the former president said that the judicial system is “rigged,” that the cases affecting him are tainted by clear “political interference,” and that the fact that he is being tried in New York, a city clearly “anti-Republican,” is a clear example of how politics contaminates justice in the Big Apple.
