In June 2023, the story of the OceanGate submersible called ‘Titan’ and the death of its crew shocked the world as they tried to visit the wreck of the Titanic. Now, more than a year later, the US Coast Guard has revealed the first image of the wrecked vehicle on the seabed.
First Image and Audio of the Imploded OceanGate Submersible Revealed After a Year of the Tragedy
The first image of the OceanGate submersible, completely destroyed on the ocean floor after its catastrophic implosion last year was shared by the US Coast Guard. It should be recalled that in one of the great tragedies of this century, all five people on board the ship died in June 2023 during a failed dive towards the wreck of the Titanic.
In the photo published by the authorities, the broken tail cone of the submersible is seen on the floor (bottom) of the North Atlantic. The tail cone was separated from the rest of the ship, with jagged edges, while a torn fragment of the ship is seen nearby.

One of the final messages from the five-person crew of the Titan submersible before it imploded, killing all inside, was “all good here”, a hearing has revealed.
Who Died on the OceanGate Submersible?
The submersible was carrying Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood with his 19-year-old student son Suleman; British explorer Hamish Harding; French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet; and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.
Attorney Jane Shvets, representing OceanGate — which has ceased operations — read a brief statement in which she echoed that:
“There are no words to ease the loss endured by the families impacted by this tragic incident,” Shvets said, “but we hope that this hearing will help shed light on the cause of the tragedy and prevent anything like this from happening again.”

As part of the search efforts in 2023, the United States Coast Guard had reported through social media that it had found “a debris field within the search area near the Titanic,” at a depth of about 3,800 meters (the image was only revealed today). Rescue efforts began as soon as they received the notice and focused on an area located approximately 1,450 kilometers off Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

The search involved personnel and resources from the United States, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom, with airplanes, boats, and underwater drones. The mission to go down to see the remains of the ship, sunk in 1912 after hitting an iceberg, was supposed to last ten hours. The company OceanGate Expeditions was the owner and operator of the submersible, used to carry out deep-water expeditions.
At the time, the company’s website was offering eight-day, seven-night trips to the wreck of the Titanic, which lies at a depth of about 3,800 meters, for an approximate price of $250,000.
The wreck of the Titanic lies 3,800 metres below the seabed, about 600 kilometres off the coast of Newfoundland in Canada. Over the past few decades, the area has been visited several times by scientists, explorers, tourists and, of course, film directors such as James Cameron.
