It looks like this new Trump administration has some unexpected supporters. While his first term was filled with clashes against powerful figures like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, things seem to have shifted. Now, Trump appears to have some big names in his corner—including the Amazon founder and current owner of The Washington Post.
The Rocky History Between Donald Trump and Jeff Bezos
Back in Trump’s first term, his relationship with Jeff Bezos was anything but friendly. Trump repeatedly attacked Amazon, claiming it was hurting the U.S. Postal Service, and he didn’t hold back when it came to The Washington Post.

He accused the newspaper of spreading “fake news” and called out its coverage of his administration. Bezos, for his part, criticized Trump publicly, even calling him a threat to democracy.
One major moment of tension came in 2019, when Amazon filed a lawsuit over a $10 billion Pentagon contract. The company claimed Trump personally interfered due to his feud with Bezos.
What Trump Is Saying About The Washington Post Now
Fast forward to today, and the tone has totally changed. Trump recently said in an interview that Bezos has started “trying to do a real job” with The Washington Post.
He mentioned that Bezos privately criticized the staff at the Post, saying they were “out of control” and expressing frustration over the paper’s financial losses.
Q: Jeff Bezos was at your inauguration, now he’s trying to make the Washington Post more fair toward you

As part of this apparent shift, The Washington Post introduced a new internal mission: “Riveting Storytelling for All of America.”
Its opinion section has also pivoted to focus more on “personal liberties and free markets,” which Trump praised as “great.” According to the president, this change was not something he saw during his first term.
What’s even more surprising? Jeff Bezos attended Donald Trump’s second inauguration ceremony in January 2025. He was seated with tech leaders like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg—another clear sign of warming relations.

While it’s unclear if this friendship will last, the recent moves suggest a major change in dynamics. Whether it’s strategy or genuine alignment, Bezos seems to be adjusting his stance—and Trump is definitely noticing. For now, the two seem more like allies than enemies. Stay tuned.
