Israel resumes its attacks against hamas as the end of the truce is confirmed

Israel’s attacks on Hamas in Gaza resumed today after the week-long truce officially ended. During that period, in addition to the entry of humanitarian aid, dozens of hostages were also released.

The Truce Between Israel and Hamas Is Over

Despite the resumption of fighting, negotiations for a new agreement between Israel and Hamas continue through Egyptian and Qatari mediators. The initial agreement involved the release of women, adolescents, and children. In this case, for every Israeli citizen returned, three Palestinians were released from prisons in Israel.

In Gaza, 137 people kidnapped in the Hamas attacks on October 7 remain hostages, including 20 women and 117 men. Several of those captured are part of the Israeli army. It is even said that the military group opposes maintaining the same conditions of the initial agreement to release the male hostages. Among them is the Mexican, Orión Hernández.
This Friday, with the end of the truce, the Israeli army confirmed having attacked more than 200 terrorist targets, including several in Khan Younis and Rafah with ground, air, and naval units.

“The IDF attacked areas filled with explosives, terrorist tunnel shafts, launch posts, and operational command centers designated by Hamas for use in the renewed fighting,” was part of the official statement from the Israel Defense Forces.

In the early hours of December 1, Israel blamed Hamas for breaking the truce by not releasing all the women and children taken hostage, in addition to attacking that country with rockets. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported that 109 people have died since the temporary truce expired this morning. In total, more than 14,800 people have been killed, including around 6,000 children, since Israel began its campaign against Hamas in Gaza in retaliation for the October 7 attacks.
