The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said this Tuesday that he is proud of his son Hunter and that he will accept the sentence he receives after being found guilty of the three charges he faced for illegal purchase and possession of a weapon.
In his declarations, the president said he and the first lady are proud of their son, who says he has been been sober since 2019, and will always be there for him with “love and support.”

What’s the matter with the president’s son?
A jury in Delaware found Hunter Biden guilty of three crimes related to weapons possession, for concealing his drug addiction during the purchase. The charges, all at the federal level, carry a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
The trial, in which Hunter has not testified, began last week and is the first that the son of an active president faces in the United States. Joe Biden then issued a first statement in which he showed his support and in an interview last Thursday with the ABC network he ruled out exercising his power to pardon him.

In his statement this Tuesday, he said that that he would accept the outcome and “continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”
Hunter Biden is the son of the president’s first wife, the late Neilia Biden, and was accused of lying in October 2018 when he did not acknowledge that he used drugs on a form to purchase a .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver, which he then kept for 11 days.

The president also expressed that many families who have had loved ones fighting addiction understand the feeling of pride in seeing someone you love coming out on the other side and being so strong and resilient in recovery.
The case could affect Joe Biden’s campaign in the November 5 presidential election, as Republicans, especially former president and pre-candidate Donald Trump, who called the verdict “nothing more than a distraction from the real crimes of the Biden Crime Family.”
