Jessi Rodríguez is convinced that we must begin to break with stereotypes, even if society is not yet ready.
The 23-year-old is a plus-size model who embraces her beauty and now seeks to become the next Miss Universe to say goodbye to the 90-60-90 standard.
This opportunity for Jessi to get closer to her dream is thanks to the beauty pageant admitting, starting in 2023, any woman who wants to participate, regardless of their size or marital status.
The only requirement, as announced by Amy Emmerich, CEO of the organization, will be that they are within an age range of 18 to 28 years old.
For a couple of years now, it has become more common to see plus-size women starring in magazine covers, runways, and now this, so we are on the right path, spreading a message of self-acceptance and self-love to more people.
Who Is Jessi Rodríguez, the Plus-Size Model Who Wants to Be Miss Universe?
Jessi is a 23-year-old model and activist who has long promoted body positivity and the liberation of the female body, far from the beauty standards established by society.
The young woman decided to participate in the Miss Costa Rica contest to fulfill her dream of being Miss Universe and at the same time put an end to fatphobia, because a person’s beauty and value do not depend on the size of their body.
“I not only seek to represent what I consider beautiful for myself, but also to represent the many women who follow me and see me as an example. So that they can see that I am beyond a body and that I can represent it in a beautiful, special, enjoyable, and loving way,” wrote Jessi Rodríguez on her social media.
The model is convinced that her participation in the beauty pageant can bring a change to the world, throwing away all types of stereotypes.
“I don’t consider myself more than anyone else, but it would be an honor to represent Costa Rican women because beyond beauty, Ticas are intelligent, hardworking, and fighters, and I admire all of them and could represent them very well.”
The Day Jessi Rodríguez Embraced and Discovered Her True Beauty
Before Jessi was the woman full of security that we know now, she carried several ghosts that did not allow her to love herself completely.
She was insecure with her body because it did not look like what she saw on social media, magazines, and television until one day she decided to change her mindset, and it worked.
“I have been choosing differently for a while now, I choose to be happy and have peace with my body, I focus on what I like and what makes me the woman I am today, a job that I carry out every day from when I wake up until I go to bed.”
Jessi is the clear example that physical appearance does not define or give value to anyone. The greatest wealth is the essence that each person radiates.
“I am capable of doing many things. My value does not depend on my appearance,” wrote the model who came to remind us that the only limit is the one we impose on ourselves.
