Likewise, perigee, which occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth, causes the satellite to appear larger and brighter in the sky. Although this happens every month, the combination of perigee and other circumstances makes October moons especially impressive, like the beginning of autumn. Dr. Giannina Dale Mese Zavala, from the Faculty of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Sinaloa, explained that the elliptical orbit of the Moon and its variable distance from the Earth contribute to this lunar beauty.
