Chris Brown’s controversial history and legal battles are the focus of a new documentary titled Chris Brown: A History of Violence, set to premiere on October 27.
This documentary will be part of Investigation Discovery’s third annual “No Excuse for Abuse” campaign, a series dedicated to shedding light on domestic violence and abuse.

Brown’s public image has long been tarnished by his numerous run-ins with the law. His legal troubles began in 2009 when he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna, leaving her with serious injuries that required hospitalization. Brown later pled guilty to felony assault and accepted a plea deal. This incident marked the beginning of a series of legal issues that have plagued his career.
The documentary will examine not only the infamous Rihanna assault case but also Brown’s subsequent legal troubles, including another assault charge and a sexual assault lawsuit that was settled out of court. Over the years, Brown has been entangled in multiple legal controversies, each adding to his public record of violence.
According to the documentary’s logline, Chris Brown: A History of Violence will delve into Brown’s troubled upbringing and explore the cycle of abuse that often perpetuates such behavior. The film will raise the question of how someone with such a violent history has managed to maintain a high level of fame in the entertainment industry. Through expert interviews and cultural commentary, the documentary will highlight the long-lasting psychological effects of abuse on survivors.

In the trailer, a new accuser emerges, her identity concealed, alleging additional abuse by Brown. “I have not spoken about this matter publicly, but that’s the only way he can be stopped,” the anonymous woman says in the preview.
Following the premiere on ID at 9 p.m. on October 27, The View co-host Sunny Hostin will lead a panel discussion on intimate partner violence. Hostin, a former prosecutor with personal experience in dealing with domestic violence cases, said, “This issue is a personal one for me. As a mother and public figure, I know how important it is to speak out on this epidemic and push for change.”
Investigation Discovery and The Noise of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV
Investigation Discovery has built a reputation for exploring sensitive issues in its programming. Last year, the network aired Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, which uncovered abuse allegations from behind the scenes of Nickelodeon shows. In that documentary, Drake & Josh star Drake Bell spoke out about his experience as a victim of Brian Peck, who was convicted of assaulting Bell when he was a teenager.
Following Chris Brown: A History of Violence, Investigation Discovery is set to release a new docuseries focusing on Sean “Diddy” Combs, who faces recent charges of sex trafficking and other serious offenses.
