Yesterday, a sexual video of the Australian actor began circulating on the social network. Although the clip quickly amassed more than three million views, it was confirmed hours later that the material was fake and was an AI-generated edit.
non consensual deepfake & AI porn of real people is disgusting and frightening, even if it’s a celebrity, and even if it’s a man. I see women resharing shawn mendes or Jacob Elordi AI porn and there’s no difference, it’s still violating and wrong and should be illegal- @jasminericegirl via X.
The original video was stolen from the OnlyFans account of user @mentallyillgus, who had recorded the video a few years ago. However, when it was modified by third parties, Jacob’s face was superimposed onto the original.
As the video trended, thousands of people believed it was truly the Euphoria star. However, some users discovered the deception upon noticing that the person in the video did not have the birthmark on the abdomen that characterizes Jacob Elordi.
So far, Elordi has not commented on the matter, but the owner of the original video confirmed in a tweet that the clip was his: “Literally that is my video, deepfake is getting weird.”
Jacob Elordi is not the first celebrity to fall victim to deepfakes. In the past, many artists have been targeted by people’s ill intentions. One of the most recent examples is Taylor Swift, who had to deal with the virtualization of several explicit photos of her created with AI.
What is a Deepfake and How to Identify Them?
A deepfake is an artificial intelligence technique used to create fake but extremely realistic images, videos, or audio in which a person appears to be doing or saying something they never actually did or said.
The term “deepfake” is a combination of “deep learning” and “fake.” These contents are generated using deep neural networks that can learn and replicate the visual and auditory characteristics of a person with remarkable accuracy.
Discovering that a video is a deepfake can sometimes be complicated, although not impossible, as long as you pay attention to all the details to detect inconsistencies in the face, such as unusual blinking, facial movements, and details or errors in the videos or audios.
