Dear reader… After the great reception that season 3 of ‘Bridgerton’ had on Netflix, it was to be expected that the brands would monopolize the main actors of this installment. In this case, we are talking about Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington in the iconic story that we are all loving.
Kim Kardashian managed to do her thing and has already signed Nicola Coughlan for her new fashion campaign in ‘Skims’ entitled ‘Everybody’s wearing Skims’, for which they took a series of promotional photos and videos where in addition to seeing Nicola as a total goddess, we are also amazed by the great dresses from the millionaire’s brand.

But there is something that does not make us completely happy, and that is that although we love the representation of diverse bodies (which has also distinguished Skims), as well as the inclusion of larger sizes in the fashion industry that has gradually been advancing, it is somewhat disappointing that the collaboration has been precisely with Skims.
Whose fault is it?
This comes from several places, but in conclusion and, spoiler alert of basically any world problem: it is due to capitalism. Nowadays the inclusion of diverse bodies, sizes, colors, sizes, and ideologies is demanded more and more.

And yes, although on the one hand, we applaud the decision and the collaboration and we even love the dresses, it also makes us question a lot if there is a genuine interest in being diverse, not only for Skims but also for the other brands that come out or have already come out “representing” fat bodies.
We can’t let slip the fact that Kim Kardashian has made some questionable statements about Israel’s genocide of Palestine, which also leaves us in an ethical and moral debate about how okay it is to support this collaboration.

The importance of representation
There are things that, as a fat woman sometimes do not end. An example of this is the endless comments that come to Nicola on social networks about her body and that sadly she has had to endure to the point of having to report them.
“The situation has not improved since I started reporting these types of comments,” the actress adressed in an interview with The Irish Time News.

From that moment on, the media have put Nicola under the magnifying glass and have shown how happy and proud the actress who gives life to a double character in the successful Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ and who has become an icon of ‘body positive’ feels.
In 2012, a study reported that women who had access to see other women of different sizes felt more comfortable with the different types of bodies that exist. So we understand that the more exposed we are to body diversity on screens or in general in the media, the easier it is for us to begin to accept and value our bodies and those of others.
And well, despite everything we can feel about this collaboration amid the boycott for the genocide in Palestine, capitalism, and everything bad we can say about Kim Kardashian, we are happy that Nicola is breaking the internet and is giving it her all by shutting up mouths.
