If you haven’t heard from Danna yet, you are about to! The singer premiered her new album ChildStar, and we are about to dive in into the singer’s rise to the fame. Of course, the album’s name refers to the young age at which she started in the entertainment industry at just 4 years old.
Who Is Danna?
Danna Paola Rivera Munguía, known by her stage names Danna or Danna Paola, is a Mexican singer, songwriter, producer, and actress. She was born in Mexico City on June 23, 1995.
She made her television debut at the age of 4 on Sesame Street. From there, Mexico began to see young Danna in children’s ‘telenovelas’. Her first leading role was in “María Belén” in 2001, for which she was awarded “Child Revelation of the Year.”

Since then, Danna has participated in famous Mexican telenovelas and TV series such as “¡Vivan los niños!” (2002), “La familia P. Luche” (2003), “Amy, la niña de la mochila azul” (2004), “La rosa de Guadalupe” (2008), “Atrévete a soñar” (2009), and “Como dice el dicho” (2013).
Additionally, Danna showcased her talent as a voice actress for “Tangled”, the famous Disney movie, in which she brought the character of Princess Rapunzel to life. Disney continued to hire her for projects like “Home” (2015) as Tip Tucci and for “Raya and the Last Dragon” (2021) as Raya.
The Mexican actress gained worldwide fame thanks to the hit Netflix series, “Élite.” She played the role of Lucrecia Montesinos in the first three seasons of the series and charmed everyone with her sassy attitude.

Danna also starred in the first Spanish version of the musical “Wicked” in 2013, where she portrayed the role of the witch Elphaba. The play was a critical and commercial success. Thanks to her performance, the rising star won the awards for “Revelation Actress in International Musical” at the ACPT Awards.
Danna’s New Era: ChildStar
Recently, Danna announced her new album, ChildStar. In an interview for ‘Podcast del Momento’, she confessed part of the situations that held her from being herself.
“This album was the first time I made peace, it’s a way to free myself and mature. We drain all these internal demons, traumas, and depression at the party; there were many processes in my life, I’ve been very toxic,” she said in the podcast episode.

“Sex is a taboo, but for me, it’s a spiritual and poetic act. I’m an adult because people still think of me as ‘the cute girl.’ No, I like to f*ck. I explore that confidence with myself, the sexuality of women that is still very much frowned upon, very macho-like.”
Some of the songs we can listen to on the album are Blackout, Xt4s1s, Atari, 222, Platonik, VTR3, 1trago, Amor ácido, Tenemos que hablar, Aún te quiero, Amanecer, and again VTR3 in a version with Steve Aoki.

ChildStar is not Danna’s first album, but it is the first one in which she debuts in the new era, with a new name, as she was first known as ‘Danna Paola’ ever since she was a little girl. Since she made the change publicly, criticism from social media users did not wait to appear. This happens to most female artists, for example Miley Cyrus at her ‘Bangerz’ era, or even Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’.
Danna confessed to Rolling Stone she feels in a more aware state of mind, and she trusts the process. “I think this generates a conversation out there, but I know that for the world and all the people who know me, I will continue to be Danna Paola, for those who don’t, I’m Danna. I love having both things.” she added.
The album was published this April 11th, by Universal Music México and we definitely recommend that you give it a listen!
