The Seine Triathlon will be cancelled? Athletes and spectators are concerned about the current state of the water quality of the Seine River at Paris 2024, and there’s a chance that the Olympic Games triathlon won’t take place, or at least not as planned.
According to the schedule for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the men’s triathlon event will begin on Tuesday, July 30 at 8:00 am (Paris time), while the women’s event would take place on Wednesday at the same time.
On the other hand, before the big event, a training session had been scheduled so that the athletes could familiarize themselves with the waters of the Seine River, which was scheduled to take place last Sunday, however, it was postponed until this Monday, and finally it was cancelled because levels of bacteria above the limit were found.
What Happens if the Seine Triathlon is Cancelled at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games?
Olalla Cernuda, spokesperson for the International Triathlon Federation, has commented that the rains in previous days have affected the quality of the water, however, she is optimistic in thinking that the sunny weather and local temperatures can help reduce the levels of bacteria to continue with the triathlon swimming test.
“Paris 2024 and World Triathlon reiterates that the priority is the health of the athletes,” officials said in a statement
The decision on whether the swimming event will be held or not will be decided on Tuesday, July 30 at 3:30 a.m. (almost 5 hours before the competition), in a session where the International Olympic Committee, the International Triathlon Federation and other authorities will decide whether the waters are suitable for the competition.

Despite everything, there is still a chance that the test will not take place, but a plan B is already in place in case the waters continue to present high levels of bacteria.
If things do not improve and on Tuesday morning the values ââare still above the limits, a contingency day will be used, that is, a reserve day that has been planned and would be held on Friday, August 2.
In such a case, the two events, men’s and women’s, would be held on the same day, consisting of 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running.
Furthermore, if water levels continue to be above the limits on Friday, there is a chance that a duathlon will be held, meaning that the cycling and running events will take place, but not the swimming events.
