Nearly a week after it first opened to the public, a portal art installation connecting New York City and Dublin, Ireland, via a 24/7 video livestream has temporarily shut down.
This is why “we can never have nice things.”
Despite the portal being a futuristic and fun way to communicate with other human beings, human interactions are not always the best. But, let’s face it, the reality is that we can’t expect much from humans and their behavior.
Recently, viral videos of people misusing the portal have become widespread. For example, a person from Ireland recently decided to show images of the famous September 11 attacks, commonly known as “9/11,” on their phone to New Yorkers, who were shouting “No!” from the other side.

The most recent incident involved an OnlyFans model identified as Ava Louise, who flashed her breasts in the 24/7 live feed. The images quickly went viral on X and TikTok.
A Flatiron NoMad Partnership spokesperson stated that these events were going viral: “Instances of inappropriate behavior have come from a very small minority of Portal visitors and have been amplified on social media.”

After these events, teams in both New York City and Dublin are working to prevent such behavior from appearing on both sides of the livestream portals since its opening.
The New York City portal is located in Manhattan while Dublin’s is located near O’Connell Street, the city’s main street.

There were two identical “portals,” or art installations, that connected the two cities separated by an ocean and more than 3,000 miles with a 24/7 live video link.
The Portal in Dublin is an art installation created by the organization Portals.org and Benediktas Gylys, a Lithuanian artist, author, and entrepreneur. The organization has previously set up portals in places like Vilnius, Lithuania, and Lublin, Poland.
