The excitement for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is reaching new heights as fresh details about the sequel to the iconic 80s movie continue to emerge.
Since its original release in 1988, Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” has become a cult classic, inspiring both musical and animated adaptations. Rumors of a sequel have been circulating for over a decade, but it was not until CinemaCon 2023 that the project was officially confirmed.
Following the announcement of the sequel, it was revealed that Jenna Ortega would play a key role, portraying the daughter of Winona Ryder’s iconic character, Lydia Deetz.

Plot Details of the Sequel
In the sequel, the Deetz family is thrown back into the eerie world of Winter River following an unexpected family tragedy. The story revolves around three generations of the family, still haunted by Beetlejuice. Lydia’s rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, stumbles upon a mysterious model of the town in the attic, inadvertently opening a portal to the Afterlife.

The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe. Brad Pitt’s Plan B company is involved in its development, adding to the anticipation for this new project.
The first full-length trailer was released on May 23, 2024. Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder, warns the public: “Here’s a preview. Be warned. It’s intense.”
High Expectations on Jenna Ortega
A second full-length trailer was released on July 18, 2024, with Jenna Ortega taking the spotlight. This trailer opens with Astrid at school, receiving a call from her mother, Lydia, humorously saved in her phone as “Allegedly Mom.” Astrid, initially a skeptic about ghosts, soon finds herself encountering them, leading to Beetlejuice’s dramatic return, summoned by Lydia to help save Astrid.
This is Ortega’s second collaboration with Burton, having previously starred as Wednesday Addams in the successful Netflix series “Wednesday.”
Mixed reactions have flooded the internet: while some love Jenna’s participation, many are watching the movie “For Jenna and Jenna only.” Expectations are high for the young actress and this exciting sequel.

Will Johnny Depp Appear in the Movie?
Many rumors arose about Johnny Depp’s involvement in the new sequel. Despite Tim Burton’s numerous collaborations with Depp, the release of the new trailer confirmed that, unfortunately, Depp will not be participating in the movie. So far, neither the actor nor the director has commented on the matter, and it appears that it was just a rumor.

An earlier teaser trailer, released on March 21, 2024, also generated buzz. This teaser features a haunting rendition of Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” by a children’s choir, nodding to one of the original film’s most memorable scenes.
With its intriguing plot, stellar cast, and Burton’s signature touch, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is shaping up to be a cinematic event fans won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars for September 6!
